Acne can range in severity from a relatively small number of whiteheads, to a proliferation of cysts and nodules, which can be as physically painful as they are psychologically upsetting. Severe cystic acne needing cystic acne treatment can be resistant to most treatments, and in fact cystic acne treatment can produce side effects that are as upsetting as the condition itself.

Severe Types of Acne is men and women. First is Nodules are larger than other types of acne. These are hard lumps which form beneath the surface of the skin causing pain and discomfort. One method in determining your acne type is to clean your face, dry it, then apply a sheet of toilet paper to your face. If it falls off quickly, you have a dry skin condition. If the paper sticks right away then your face is more on the oily side. I know this may seem like some primitive caveman method, so, if you like, just see a dermatologist, this is usually the best way. Just ask your primary care physician, they will know.

Blackheads: These are a result of the pores being only partly blocked, letting some of the entrapped sebum (oil), dead skin cells and bacteria, to begin to gradually pump out to the exterior. The black color comes on because of the pigment of the skin called melanin that reacts with oxygen from the air and is not from dirt from around, as is falsely believed. The blackhead has a tendency to be of a steady form, and often takes very long to vanish.

There are many causes of acne In teenagers, acne is typically caused by the increase in hormone levels since they are in puberty. In adults, acne breakouts can be caused by a variety of things. It can be due to a hormonal imbalance, stress, pollutants or allergens and even a reaction to medications for certain ailments. According to research, hormones have been found to primarily be the cause of breakouts among men and women.

Nodules are usually referred to as severe forms of Acne Vulgaris. A nodule is a thick lesion that is usually underneath the skin’s surface. They can cause scarring and be extremely uncomfortable. Many times nodules can take several months to heal. You should never try to pop a nodule. If you notice nodules under your skin, you should seek the advice and treatment from a dermatologist.
