High Protein Foods, Foods Rich in Protein

High protein foods are great for packing on extra muscle. To make sure that your diet is filled with muscle-building proteins, it is extremely important to consider which high protein foods you should consume during your daily eating routine. To help you select the best high protein foods for your diet, we’ve compiled a list of some of the most protein-packed foods that you can find in your average grocery store.

Proteins are comprised of amino acids that are the building blocks of muscle and are found in skin, muscle, organs, hormones and enzymes. Proteins take longer to digest than carbohydrates and therefore keep you fuller for longer without causing drastic changes in blood sugar level. We obtain healthy amounts of proteins in our diet primarily from meats, eggs, fish, beans, nuts, legumes and dairy products.

Think quality, organic or wild free range whenever possible. These meats have more nutrients per mouthful and are less likely to contain parasites or residue of animal infections. In the US it is legal to chop a cancer tumor out of dead animal flesh and sell the rest to the public. Buying organic improves not only flavour, but also quality… no hormones or antibiotics!

If there is a downside to high protein food, it's that the majority of them are high in fat, and some are very high in cholesterol. Some fats are good, but even if you have "good fat" like from fish, nuts, or olive oil, you don't want too much. Then there are the terrible saturated fats and cholesterol that can harm you, threatening with heart disease and clogged arteries. This is where finding the good high protein food comes in. Fish, chicken, turkey, and beans are all considered some of the absolute best high protein foods because they are high in protein, tend to have more good fat than bad, and less of it (although some nuts are certainly high in the fat category).

Milk- Milk is considered to have a complete protein which helps in building muscles. Drinking milk is a great way to achieve your daily protein target. A person must take milk in skimmed form. He should drink 2 cups of skim milk in a day which does not contain any trans-fat. It helps to speed up the muscle recovery after lot of workout.

An average person who trains hard and weighs 180lbs requires a minimum of 180grams of protein in his diet per day. This means at least 1gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. Anything less and muscle building/recovery will not be optimal. Some hard training athletes consume up to 2 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight in order to accelerate the muscle building process. This is not recommended for most people who require a moderately high protein intake. The total amount of protein taken every day should be spread over 5 to 6 meals throughout the course of a day.
